A Free course on Blogging - SCAM

December 30th, 2007 · 5 Comments

You know how the saying goes “If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.” Well I found a link in my Blog Rush widget on my site for a FREE blogging course.

Well I am by no means an expert at blogging and I am always up to learn new stuff so I thought I would check it out. Guess what? Its not really free. What they say they want is for bloggers to take their course and evaluate it for them. This sounds reasonable enough, they could take bloggers feed back and make a better course from it. However in order to get this “free” course they want you put this code on your site:

I’m evaluating a href=”http://www.simpleology.com/training/blogging/index.php”> multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you href=”http://www.simpleology.com/training/blogging/index.php”>snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

So it is not really free. In order to get their “free” course I have to give them free ad space on my site. So in effect I guess we are trading freebies. Well as you can see I did put the code on my site and I did plan to evaluate the course and post about it. However this exchange of freebies made me more suspicious than normal.

Well just as I thought it was a SCAM! So because this is a scam I disabled their links in the code they wanted me to put on my site. But it is in italics if you want to check out the scam for yourself. After you get through their registration you get sent to a splash page with an two simple tips to hack your body. These consist of chewing your food and drinking enough water. You are then presented with the option to sign up for these mind blowing course for free for 30 days! If you don’t sign up now you’ll never have the offer again . For that I am eternally grateful, like I want to take advice from a company that has to trick me into buying their advice.

As you can see its just a clever marketing scam to get you through the door. Highly Not Recommended.

    What a bunch of crap.
Why do people make such a big deal out of blogging.
I mean, come on, you either have it or don’t.

How many more blogs about the news and the moneymaking and whatnot do we need?

It’s time that the people that blog just concentrate on doing what they do Best. Tell people about their Life and surroundings.
That’s what makes the most interesting blogs.

And then the ones like yours, that help people in regards of things that are not so overcrowded and hard to find.
But every third blogger jumping on the bandwagon of blogging about the same things because they supposedly bring you money?

    Sigh… ;)

    Hi There,

I’m the owner of the company you are accusing here of a scam.

We’re quite up front about the fact that we ask you to link to the course to get it. The link that we ask you to post says that quite clearly as does the page that links sends you to.

Yes, in the sign up process there is an upsell for yet another of our courses - a completely different course. Not an uncommon marketing practice at all to ask for an upsell while giving something else away for free.

The blogging course you do get access for in exchange for the link - precisely as advertised.

If any of this is unclear, you’re more than welcome to ask for assistance at our help desk: http://www.simpleology.com/support

    All the best,

    Mark Joyner

Well there are actually a ton of photoshop tutorial sites out there. But I do what I can. I would blog about my life - tried that but it is just too boring :).
That’s why with this site I try to focus on creativity be it with using photoshop or wordpress, or writing code. As well as the lessons I have learned from the software industry.
