When I first start work I synch my Outlook and then I go offline. I then proceed to clean out my inbox. I delete, file or respond to every email that I can quickly address, the rest go into one of 6 folders: Reply Today Reply Later Current Task/Project Future Task/Project File Later Waiting For Reply Once I get through that I retrieve whatever new email I got during the time it took me to do that, then I go offline and do it again. I keep my mail offline unless I know there are urgent issues going on that will require immediate response, otherwise people know to contact me over IM or phone, or in person. Throughout the day I have blocks of time where I repeat the above - go online, grab my email, go offline and process. During these times I also tackle my reply today folder. My goal at the end of the day is to have an empty inbox and an empty reply today folder. I'm an IT Director and I get hundreds of emails a day. Spam is the only thing I CAN deal with... delete, delete, delete.
